In the Township of Oro-Medonte, on the heavily treed shoreline of Lake Simcoe, this project involved removing an older dock to construct a new two-storey boathouse and an attached deck. To preserve the mature trees along the shoreline and accommodate the steep topography, the design required several variances from the Committee of Adjustment.
Design Plan Services Inc. was retained to represent the property owner and secure the necessary approvals. DPS staff collaborated with Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority to determine a building footprint that minimized environmental disruption while maximizing the use of the property. DPS demonstrated that the variances were minor, prevented overdevelopment, and ensured the new boathouse remained visually subordinate to the main dwelling.
